Cairns Regional Council

Planning, Building & Infrastructure

Development Services

Development refers to the carrying out of building work, plumbing or drainage work, operational work, reconfiguring a lot, and/or making a Material Change of Use of Premises.

The existing Town Planning schemes of both former Councils will remain in use until they can be merged together. This process can take years to complete and involves extensive community consultation and State Interest Checks before a new Town Planning scheme can be adopted. In the meantime, those wishing to make building or development applications will do so under the relevant scheme for their area. Applications for either area can be made at the Cairns or Mossman office.

Current fees and charges remain in place until the 2008-09 Budget is handed down in June 2008.
