The Douglas Shire Sustainable Futures Draft Strategy was developed by Douglas Shire Sustainable Futures Community Working Group in conjunction with Douglas Shire Council and Queensland Environmental Protection Agency. Sustainable Futures brings together the Shire?s new innovative industry policies with the interests of the broader community in an overall strategy based on a triple bottom line approach.

This document is designed to ensure that all the decisions we make take into account
environmental, social and economic issues not one in isolation of the others. It helps form the foundation for the new Shire Planning Scheme, the new Douglas Shire Council Corporate Plan and many others. It provides an ambitious ?big picture? overview of the many different projects in the Shire and identifies over 230 actions that will propel us towards a better future. The Strategy is not an end in itself but the framework for ongoing ACTION.
