A dedicated cycleway for Cairns

The Cairns CBD to Aeroglen Cycleway is stage one of a dedicated cycleway connecting Palm Cove in the north, all the way to Gordonvale in the south, via Smithfield and the CBD.

Council is working in partnership with the Department of Transport and Main Roads to build the first stage of this facility to provide a safe and convenient cycling option to encourage everyone to get on their bike.

The Department of Transport and Main Roads is contributing 75% of the $6.1 million project with Council contributing the remainder $1.5 million.

Extensive investigations have been carried out on all possible routes to get from Aeroglen into the CBD. Results from these investigations have led Council to determine that the Esplanade is the best route.
