LAMP is often invited to provide advice and information to Council and local service providers on a range of
topics related to communities from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.

LAMP has developed a number of resources covering a range of topics, which have been presented at local and national forums, meetings and international conferences that are available on this site.

Making Space - Cultural Perspectives from Australia's Far North (short film 16min)

Making Space explores the different cultural perspectives of five migrant communities who share their views and experiences about their need for creating cultural and spiritual spaces.  For them it is not only about buildings and land, but more about creating a sense of place and ownership they feel is essential to their community’s well being. The ability to access community spaces is as important to secure the survival of their own cultural identities and future generations, as it is to ensuring the social cohesion of Australia’s multicultural society.  Film Background.

Translating Information - Targeting Communities (143KB) is a guide to translating community information that targets communities from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.  Presented at the 2003 Language Services Forum, hosted by Migrant Settlement Services.

Getting It Right - Engaging Communities in a Multicultural Society (42KB) provdes advice on processes and protocols to follow when engaging communities from diverse cultural backgrounds who are involved in sport and recreational activities in the Cairns local area. Presented at the 2003 Engaging Communities Conference, hosted by the Department of Sport and Recreation Queensland.

Communicating Across Cultures (137KB) is a Strategy and Training Programme for the Cairns Regional Council.

Cairns City Diversity Profile (477KB) was presented at the Access and Equity Forum, hosted by the Supported Accommodation Assistance Programme (SAACS) and the Department of Communities, in 2002.  Please note, the 2001 census data was not available at the time of this presentation, therefore data is based on 1996 statistics.
