About Sugarworld Parkland
Sugarworld Gardens, Edmonton's Botanic Reserve, is a great place to relax with the family.
These beautiful gardens are located just a 20 minute drive from the Cairns CBD. The gardens are open seven days a week from 7:00am to 6:30pm. Admission is free and plenty of free parking is available.
Sugarworld Gardens feature a playground, barbecue areas, volleyball court, and a great shady area to enjoy family gatherings, functions and wedding ceremonies in these magnificent surrounds.
To book the Gardens for a wedding or function, please contact Cairns City Council on 4044 3044.
Majestic peacocks live in the park and provide hours of entertainment as the male birds gracefully show off their exotic tail feathers.
The sprawling exotic fruit orchard is a must to visit. It produces many interesting fruit such as the jaboticaba, the miracle fruit (which turns sour into sweet), velvet apples and bread fruit. Most of the fruit trees grown in the orchard are available from local nurseries.
The Thomas Swallow Garden, a section within Sugarworld dedicated to the pioneers of the sugar industry, contains six different varieties of bananas.
Sugarworld Gardens embraces the history of the region's sugar industry. A steam driven locomotive which was used to haul cane to the Hambledon Sugar Mill at Edmonton (established in 1883) is on display near the Thomas Swallow Gardens.
Note: Glass free area. No alcohol. No dogs allowed. Do not feed the wildlife.
