Key Goals, Objectives and Strategies

8.2 Areas of the Community that Traditionally have Difficulty being Heard on Community Issues have Better Opportunity to Contribute

To achieve this, Council will:

8.2.1

Ensure that all of Council’s engagement and education processes effectively reach areas of the community that traditionally have difficulty being heard where they are stakeholders. This includes:

  • young people,
  • Indigenous people,
  • people from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds,
  • rural people,
  • people with a disability,
  • single mothers, and
  • low income families.

Specifically, develop and implement a:

  • cultural diversity policy, and
  • Indigenous engagement policy.

Responsible Officer: General Manager, City Development

Council will work with the following in carrying out this strategy:

  • Department of Communities
  • Department of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Policy
  • Department of Immigration and Multicultural Affairs
  • Migrant Settlement Services
  • Youth Services Network
  • Hambledon House Community Centre
  • National Farmers Federation – local branch
  • FNQ NRM Ltd (link to Aboriginal Plan and stakeholder groups)
  • Dept of Education and The Arts
  • James Cook University
  • TAFE
  • Disability Services Queensland
